Lose Weight with Stress Management Hypnosis

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Step #1 in my Weight Loss Hypnosis book is to Stress Less. Notice that this has NOTHING to do with eating. It has to do with calming your mind and centering your emotions so that when you do eat it is because you are hungry and not because you feel like everything’s spinning out of control.

People tend to reach for food as a coping mechanism and take quick comfort in carbs instead of refocusing on themselves. Check out this quick video I just made on the subject that explains how you can lose weight by using self hypnosis for stress management:

Stop Procrastinating and Start Getting Things Done

By Joshua Seth | September 4, 2008

Procrastinating may feel good in the short term because you get to do what you want to do right now, but in the long term it can keep you from getting things done. Learning some simple time management skills can help you create the life you want with a minimum of time and effort, but first you must take action now.

There are many things you can do to stop procrastinating and take action. Here are five simple ideas to help you get started:

Make A Must Do List

Create what I call a Must Do list before you go to bed each night. This is different from a To Do list. On a Must Do list you only write down the top 3 to 5 activities that will have the greatest payoff and then do them before anything else on the following day.

To see exactly how I do this, watch this video.

Visualize Your Success

Getting things done requires taking action. Sometimes people don’t take the first step because they haven’t clearly visualized the outcome. Before you begin your next important project, take a moment and imagine what rewards will come once it’s completed. What changes will it create in your life? What’s the ideal outcome you desire?

Clearly visualize what you want and infuse that image with positive emotion. You will find that taking action to achieve that goal becomes much easier once you know where it is you’re going.

Chunk It Down

Break large projects into smaller more manageable tasks. And write them down! Work becomes much more manageable when you get it out of your head and onto a piece of paper. Don’t skip this tip. It’s easy and important (my favorite kind).

Communicate Your Commitment

In my book The Weight Loss Hypnosis Solution I include a commitment form that I encourage the reader to sign and post on the refrigerator. That signed form serves as a daily reminder and a public declaration of intent.

Making your goals public creates accountability and accountability inspires action. Whenever you commit to achieving a big goal, communicate it to as many people as possible, especially people who you respect and admire.

Communicate your commitment to achieving your goals and create the accountability that will help you to achieve them.

Automate Routine Tasks

You don’t have to do everything yourself. Many routine tasks can be automated through the internet. Think about where you can create efficiencies in your life that leverage technology to save you time.

A couple of simple examples are:

• Online bill payment (why write checks and lick stamps every month?)
• USPS.com (you can hold mail, forward your address, and mail your packages without every standing in line at the post office)

Take Action Now

The key to stop procrastination is to take action. It doesn’t always have to be the right either. Sometimes just creating motion with a stated goal is enough to generate the momentum needed to get things done.

Like most things in life, the way you think will determine the actions you take (or don’t take). For more valuable time management tips check out my full program Take Action Now

Fad Diets Why Are They Bad

By Joshua Seth | September 2, 2008

Whenever I conduct a weight loss hypnosis seminar I always ask how many people in the audience have tried to lose weight on a fad diet in the past and failed. Typically just about every hand in the room goes up. A few people will say they lost the weight and kept it off, but most will tell of a difficult process with no long term benefit.

Have you ever lost weight on a fad diet only to gain it all back again once the diet is over?

Diets of all kinds require sacrifice. They disempower you and require that you change your behaviors to fit their restrictive programs. They take all control away from the individual and require that you change your eating habits without first changing your mental habits.

Typically, on a diet hypnosis is not on the menu :-) Hypnosis for weight loss does not require sacrifice or willpower. When you change the way you think about food and release your emotional connections to food you will find yourself making healthy food choices naturally.

If you’ve struggled  to stay on a fad diet and never gained the lasting results you desire, you should evaluate why that diet plan didn’t succeed. Did you get to choose the food you ate on your diet plan?  Did you get to choose how much you ate? Did you get to chose when you ate? If the answer was “no”, then the reason your diet plan didn’t work was because you were not in control of the process.

It’s NOT You…

It’s biology. When you’re hungry and you don’t eat then you’re metabolism slows down and you become a less efficient fuel burning machine. I go into this process in much more detail in my book The Weight Loss Hypnosis Solution, but the short version is that diets work at cross purposes to your goal of losing weight. They make it harder to lose weight not easier.

All you have to do is look around and see that even though we’re spending more money on diets than ever before our society is becoming fatter and less healthy. What the mainstream media and the big corporations are telling you to do to lose weight is not working. Could it be that there is more money to be made by keeping you fat and unhealthy than there is by empowering you to become all that you can be? Could diets be part of the problem?

With the Hypnosis Weight Loss Solution you’ll regain control of what you eat because you will reprogram your brain to actually want to eat healthy foods  You won’t have to be told when to eat, because you’ll only want to eat when you are truly hungry. You won’t be driven by cravings for certain foods, you’ll be in the driver’s seat and only eat what you truly want (and you’ll only want a little).  I know this is true because that is how it has worked for me and for thousand of people who have listened to my weight loss hypnosis seminars in the past.

In order for you to lose weight permanently, you have to feel in control of what you eat, how much you eat, and when you eat it. The Weight loss Hypnosis Solution works because it gives you back control of your life.

Natural Weight Loss Lifestyle Tip

By Joshua Seth | August 27, 2008

Predict Your Future Weight…

Do you compare yourself to the people around you? Most people do. As obesity becomes more widespread in our society being overweight is becoming the norm.

I saw the movie “WALL-E” recently which paints a picture of a future populated with people so fat that they can’t even move around or stand upright without the assistance of motorized chairs.

Seems far fetched, right? Maybe not. According to the United State’s government’s Center for Disease Control, 66% of American’s are overweight. Sounds unbelievable, right? Think I’m making that up? Here’s a link to the CDC’s website so you can check it out for yourself:

The current research from Johns Hopkins predicts that 86% of Americans could be overweight by 2030. If that trend continues a motorized chair could be in your future too. It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see that 4 out of 5 people will soon be overweight and unhealthy in our society.

It’s almost as if obesity has become viral and people are catching it from one another like a common cold.

Is Gaining Weight Contagious?

In a way, yes. If everyone in your social circle is overweight then it will seem normal if you are too. It might even cast you as an outsider if you suddenly lost a lot of weight, right? Then you wouldn’t be like your friends anymore and maybe they wouldn’t like you.

This sort of thought pattern causes many people to “catch” weight issues from their friends and family. Ever notice how family members tend to be similar in weight? Think this is all genetic or could there be a degree of social conditioning at work here? The answer can be found in…

Your 5 Closest Friends

Do you know about “the 5 closest friends” theory? It states that you’re likely to behave in a manner consistent with the 5 people you spend the most time with.

This idea is popular in wealth building circles. If you spend a lot of time with people who make $50,000 a year and you want to make $100,000 a year then you need to start spending time with people who are already doing that.

It works for weight loss too. If you socialize with people who make poor food choices and indulge in self destructive eating habits then chances are that you will too.

Put yourself in an environment where other people are already achieving what you want for yourself and you will reach your goals more quickly and easily.

You can apply this concept to many areas of your life.

• Academics (If you’re a C student, start spending time with A students)
• Sports (play your favorite sport with people who are much better than you and you’ll quickly elevate the level of your game)
• Business (populate your world with high achievers and model their success)

And, of course, weight loss.

Why does this idea work?

“Normal” is whatever we see around us on a daily basis. You might feel better about yourself if all your friends and co-workers are heavier than you, yet to become fit and trim and healthy you’d be better off surrounding yourself with like minded people.

Natural Weight Loss Success Tip…

If you spend your time with people who do the opposite of what you know to be right you will soon become one of them. Negative mindsets, self defeating attitudes, and unhealthy behaviors can rub off on you and even seem acceptable over time.

Create a network of friends who have the same goals and as you and you will be on your way to improving your life.

Be brave enough to surround yourself with people who have already achieved what you intend to attain and you will “catch” their success. This can have far reaching consequences in your life that go way beyond weight loss.

It comes down to this… are you going to accept things as they are or are you willing to create an environment that will nurture your long term success even if it costs you in the short run?

How Not To Lose Weight

By Joshua Seth | August 20, 2008

Ugh, I feel like crap.

I’ve been traveling all day. Only airplane food was available. Carb heavy and tasteless as usual. Did you know the airlines are charging for everything now, even water!

Anyway, I got to the hotel just now and everything’s closed except for the bar.
Only typical bar food is available: chicken wings, nachos, fried chicken tenders, cheeseburgers, etc.

What a choice. Don’t eat and let my metabolism slow down (which is the exact opposite of what I recommend doing in my weight loss book). Or eat a bunch of fried food that will leave me feeling heavy and lethargic.

I ordered the cheeseburger.

Now what you have to understand is that I was a vegetarian from the time I was 8 years old until I was 30. I read Upton Sinclair’s book “The Jungle” which is abut the meat packing industry when I was 8 and then stopped eating red meat for the next 22 years.

When I turned 30 I did a lot of self reflection and realized that not eating meat had turned into a hangup. A food issue. And that a nice steak now and then wasn’t going to kill me.

I had given power to the food and not to myself. So I took it back and had a T-bone.
It was sooooooooo good :-)

I didn’t eat a nice, juicy steak tonight though. I just had a heavy, greasy hamburger The kind you have to soak the oil out of with your napkin before you eat it. Squeeze it and the thing oozed out liquid heart attack juice all over the plate.

So hungry though… and nothing else to eat.

That’s the problem all over America isn’t it?

Whether you’re driving down the highway in search of a bite to eat or stranded in an airport or shopping in the mall, we are presented with an array of blindly bad food choices. Sugary, salty, carbo loaded, high calorie, low nutrition foods.

When I was in Europe they had vegetables and fresh foods all over the place. Why don’t we?

The solution is always within.

I always seek to change myself rather than rail against the shortcomings of the world around me. It’s the only way to be happy. You are the only person you can change after all. Just as I am the only person I can change.

You may learn from my experience, but ultimately it is you who will have to decide to put into practice or discard whatever it is you have gained from having come into contact with me (or anyone else within your sphere of influence).

So here is what I am going to do….

I vow to start packing food with me when I travel.

Simple right. I will bring along some carrots and nuts and whatever else I can stuff into my carry-on bag and then next time I’m presented with bad bar food or going to bed hungry I will not have to chose either.

That’s what my weight loss book is all about after all, empowering yourself to make healthy food choices no matter what environment you are in. Real, permanent weight loss is difficult to achieve if you’re always reacting to your environment. Real weight loss is achieved when you adopt a mindset that gives rise to proactive habits and behaviors.
