The Truth About Hypnosis and Weight Loss

The question I am most often asked when people find out I’m a hypnotist is “Does hypnosis work for weight loss?” Well my answer may surprise you.
You see, a lot of people seem to fall into two camps when it comes to hypnosis and weight loss: there are those who are skeptical about it but are so frustrated with dieting that they’re willing to try just about anything to lose weight, and there are those who are just looking for a “you are healed” slap across the head that will magically melt away those unwanted pounds without any effort on their part.
The truth is that while hypnosis is far more effective at losing weight than dieting, without proper nutritional and behavioral education it’s nothing more than a feel-good mindset tool.
Anything worth doing in your life takes effort and losing weight is no different. Hypnosis will very effectively put you in a frame of mind that will allow you to make better food choices, but unless you have the proper nutritional and behavioral education it will be of limited value.
For example, if you are an emotional eater (you eat when you’re lonely, angry, or depressed) you can easily break this habit with hypnosis. But let’s say you’re actually eating because you’re hungry (a good first step!) and you decide that a soft drink would go well with your meal. In your hypnosis session you became empowered to “eat only when you’re hungry and make healthy food choices” (that’s actually one of the embedded commands in my weight loss hypnosis system). So you ask yourself “Is a diet soft drink a healthier choice than a regular soft drink?”
Without the proper education you may be tempted to think that a diet soft drink is the healthier food choice because it has fewer calories. With some basic nutritional education though, you’ll recognize that the aspartame (a sugar substitute found in thousands of “diet” products) in that diet soft drink is far more harmful to your body than the sugar in a regular soda would have been. It may even cause you to gain more weight over time. Google it and see for yourself.
Sure, a glass of water is the best choice of all, but we’re all human and the goal is not deprivation but liberation. Freedom from feeling helplessness around food because of misinformation and poor internal programming.
In this series of articles I will introduce you to four foods found in thousands of diet products that actually make you fatter.
Once you understand what good food choices actually are, then you are ready to enjoy all the benefits of weight loss hypnosis. You must attack your weight loss issue from both inside and out: hypnosis works on the inside issues of emotional eating, mindset, and motivation, while proper nutritional and behavioral education works on the outside. Both are necessary for a permanent weight loss solution.

I Have tried lots of diets to lose the 20+ pounds that keep returning and I was tired of always feeling guilty about everything I ate. I had resigned myself to be the size I was. Then on the cruise I attended your hypnosis show and sat in the back ready to leave. But I started to feel like I was being hypnotized when I was watching the people on stage. I was impressed with the showsince it was highly entertaining and not demeaning to the participants. When you offered the weight loss seminar I figured I may as well see what you had to say.
In that session I was hypnotized and told things I had heard a zillion times about weight loss but the whole attitude about the positive outlook and ‘the feel good’ and ‘I can do it now’ that was the emphasis I really heard.
It worked. Without consciously thinking about it that evening I had taken slow small bites, put my fork down, thought about the food and the taste and actually left some food on my plate because I felt full. Seems simple enough but I had not been brought up that way. I even refused dessert for the first time on a cruise since nothing seemed appealing enough. It actually wasn’t until the next day that I realized I was doing the food control without a guilt trip or serious mind games in order to decide whether to eat something or not. It was just happening! I could hardly wait to get home and do my 21 days with the CD. It worked. I really do look forward to the sessions and I lost the first 5 lbs over Christmas. I feel better and now people are starting to notice the difference. I am so glad I went to your show and thanks again ofr all the support as I work through my 6 CD Weight Loss program.
Thanks Joshua.

H Diane,
I must have missed your comment before. Thanks for posting your weight loss success story.
A lot of people tell me that they come to my shows or seminars a bit skeptical about hypnosis but then leave with newfound understanding about the power of their minds to make changes in their lives.
It makes me so happy to hear that you’ve used that knowledge to help you lose weight. Yes, my hypnosis CDs were the tools you used to do it, but YOU were the one that took action every step of the way so I give you a lot of credit.
Congratulations and continued success,
Joshua
